Garry the Gecko is this Months Picture Perfect Pet!

Garry the Gecko

Wayne Hollands from Pulborough, has won Februarys 'Picture Perfect Pet' competition organised by The Horsham Advertiser and Arthur Lodge Veterinary Surgery to celebrate local animal characters.

Wayne has won a pet photography voucher for entering the competition with a photograph of his beloved Gecko, who seems to have a magical soothing effect on his 7 month old baby boy, Rocco.

Wayne commented: "It's brilliant: Garry is like a magical creature! Whenever Rocco gets upset or has a full-fledged tantrum, the only thing that comforts him is when we get Garry out the cage and pop him on the floor next to Rocco. It's as though the Gecko has a soothing effect on him which is excellent for me and his mum as it gives us some piece and quiet."

Julian Peters, owner of the Arthur Lodge Veterinary Group in Sussex and Surrey commented: "This is not uncommon for animals to have a calming influence on humans. Many people own animals for this reason of companionship as they are able to provide comfort and affection. The interaction with animals, whether dogs, cats, rabbits, or in this case lizards, does in fact calm erratic behaviour. However, it is always important to make sure babies and young children are always accompanied by an adult when around animals."

If you have a picture of a pet that has survived against all odds or perhaps done something extraordinary, then let us know and you could also win a pet photography voucher.

Simply send your story and photo along with your name, pet's name and your contact details to arthurlodge@pmwcom.co.uk. One photograph per entry and remember to tell us why your pet deserves to win. Closing date Friday 25th March.
